When CoinPoker announced the start of the cash game championship in late November , one of the comments under the announcement tweet was left by Owen Messere:
– "Looking forward to officially dethroning Linus "
The post turned out to be prophetic, as we covered in this recent summary of the CoinPoker Cash Game Championship.
Tony G reported that Leon Tsoukernik is on the mend :
– Leon is recovering and it is amazing – he has even been able to speak on the phone a little – I am beyond happy for my dear friend. 🙏
In mid-January, Tsoukernik was hospitalized in serious condition after an overdose of a powerful anesthetic and spent more than 40 hours in a coma.
Beriuzy found a new way to attract an upstreak:
– Yesterday I didn't walk my dog, I lost every all-in on stream as she watched in the back...
Today, I walked her before session & literally won EVERYTHING.
🐶🐕🦮🐕🦺 Run Good Theory confirmed.
Commentators were not impressed by these results:
– Two 20x and a 10x. If you were awake for trump coin you would've had a 200x. We at 651 are happy about the doggy getting walked though.
– Maybe 325 buy-ins would suit you?
Malakastyle became the most successful tournament player of last year on GG Poker:
I managed to be the top GG winner in 2024, and if we add previous years I will be I managed to be the top GG winner in 2024, and if we add previous years I will be 🥇 in the net life time of the room. More motivated than the first day I started and I hope to improve this in the coming years 🔥
At the end of the year, GG published an infographic , according to which Juan received more than $8 million in prize money (excluding buy-ins).
– lol Juan D###### is that supposed to make it anonymous and protect your privacy? 😂 – David Yang laughed.
– Shit, I shouldn't have posted anything, fuck ego 😂, – Juan replied.
Landon Tice asked readers an important question:
– Which feeling is worse?
Len Ashby calls on the fashion industry to take notice of the poker tables:
– Whatever the felt on poker tables is made out of they should make shirts out of this shit. I’ve seen more fluids spilled on the felt from wine, to coffee, to any juice u can name and all it takes to get rid of it in 30 secs is couple rubs of an already dirty towel.
Kevin Martin is tired of poker:
– Been playing so much poker. Going to Vegas for a volleyball tournament.
Yes I’m going to Sin City to take a break from gambling.
A few hours later, Kevin posted a photo from the poker room :
– I run the dumbest bluffs that make no sense...
Nick Shulman never ceases to admire some of his colleagues:
– Legendary player David “Chino” Rheem has entered a different phase of gambling, a realm very rare to fully reach. Note the position of the leg. Only someone fully immersed in sweating the board can reach such a position. Shapeless, formless. Fully locked in.
Nick himself had a very successful start to the year, taking 2nd place in two PokerGo series tournaments (including a freeroll for the most successful players of last year), and winning one.
Jeremy Ausmus won the freeroll.
A couple of days ago, Patrick Leonard dropped by the PokerGo studio for the first time in his life.
In his first tournament he reached the final table and finished in 6th place :
– First time playing in the studio! Really liked the vibe, think I’ll play some more this year
The next day he won the cup :
– Played some more...
Yesterday Pads made another final table, although he entered it with the shortest stack and took 7th place.
All final tables of the series are broadcast for free on the PokerGo YouTube channel.
Today's schedule includes the finale featuring Kristen Foxen, Jeremy Ausmus and others.
Daniel Negreanu recalled how he challenged the entire poker world:
– Many years ago I hosted heads up matches at the Wynn, against anyone who stepped up and they got to pick the game and the stakes.
I remember one limit Hold’em match for $500k I check raised a K73 flop and saw my opponent fold 55 and it was that moment that I knew I could not lose the match.
There are times when a play is a clear giveaway about a strategy flaw in your opponent that tips you off to a pattern you will be able to exploit relentlessly.
I had A3 in this spot, and my opponent insta mucked which was also informative.
They didn’t give it a single thought, as though it was an obvious fold.
I did end up winning that match without much resistance.
Daniel Cates asked readers to rate his appearance:
– Swag rating? Notice the pin.
"One of the things that has always blown my mind about high stakes players is how terribly they dress," Will Jaffe quoted the post. "I get that it’s great not to have a boss or anyone you need to impress but if you have millions isn’t there some desire not to look like a waiter at a shitty chinese restaurant?"
Jungleman was very angry at this reaction:
– First of all, dumbass, this was a facetious post and I was not really trying
Second, would you like to take the poker world over me? Or even yourself? We can add the dressoff in with the commentateoff you sheepishly evaded
Thirdly, what the fuck is your problem?
– Would be happy to do a commentate off with you I’m def not looking to evade that.
– Your actions speak louder than words. But yes, we can for any event online when I’m not in Vegas, or live when I am.

I streamed most of my sessions, engaging with Chat and dealing with all the stream stuff.I stopped streaming in the 2nd half of the year but still recorded all of my sessions and uploaded them to our Champions Subscription for our members.
I realized that playing offstream is indeed a massive advantage. I can openly talk more about adjustments and exploits, therefore detecting flaws in my game more quickly (obviously, I couldn't do this on stream).I keep the theory simple. I focus on exploits. When I see a spot, I know what I need to do. I don't care what a Solver tells me to do. I focus on exploiting human weaknesses. I focus on consistency. I don't tilt. Most of my winnings come from patience, not tilting, and playing my value hands well. Thats it.
I can still do so much better. In 2025, I will find a good mix of playing off-stream and streaming.
Barry Carter has called for the man who invented the big blind ante to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.
The idea is believed to have originated with Cary Katz.
“Cary Katz didn’t invent it,” Justin Bonomo said, “but he is the reason why it was implemented
A few cash games had been doing it for years, but tournament directors everywhere were resistant to it
Cary implemented it at PokerGO, and it was such an obvious success that it caught on everywhere.”
Over the summer, a mysterious "European businessman" named Thomas took part in the Million Dollar Game at the Hustler Casino. He also took part in mucking the winning hand in a half-a-million dollar pot, which should have gone his way.
He played wearing a hood and mask, and in two sessions he gave away almost $3 million to his opponents.
In one of the biggest pots, which featured over $500k, he dunked the best hand on the river.
It recently emerged that Thomas is not European at all, but one of the most successful lawyers in America – Thomas Goldstein .
In mid-January, he was charged in federal court in Maryland with tax evasion and using funds from his law firm to cover gambling debts.
Court documents say that in 2016, Thomas won three heads-up matches in California and Asia for a total of $50 million. The names of the opponents are not mentioned; in the documents, they are designated as Foreign Gambler-1, California Businessman-2, and so on. However, Goldstein was unable to build on his success, and by 2021, his poker debts exceeded $14 million.
Doug Polk didn't miss the hype topic and recorded a detailed video about Thomas's adventures.
