We found out what players who want to cheer themselves up and get ready for a holiday do, just before the New Year. However, some people don’t need any tricks, because for them, every day in poker is a holiday. There are also tips here for those who just want to crawl into a den before the New Year and not come out until spring.
Happy New Year! Don't forget to buy some chocolate, maybe some champagne, and enjoy the switch from 2024 to 2025.
Anton Kote // The devil of passion – without passion.
So here it is. I don't like New Year. I just hate it. Maybe because the year is always new, but I get older every time. And I have to think about it for the second time this year, after I already thought about it on my birthday.
There is little joy as it is, and when you are also reminded on TV that it was a difficult year, then it is somehow not cheerful at all.
But of course there is a pre-New Year ritual. Every year we do the same thing. On December 31st, my wife and I realize that we still haven't bought a tree. Although we always start looking for one around the 28th or 29th. But we never find anything, because she, f*ck, always doesn't like something there. I don't even know what there is that she doesn't like. Here's the trunk, here are the branches, here are the needles. What else do you need???
But, every time the 31st comes, and we go to the market for the last time.
And every time she says that she wants a pine tree.
I tell her that we are outside, it is cold and this is impossible now, and in general, you speak like a migrant and mix up the cases. It is easier to deport you than to drag you around for the fourth day in a row looking for this tree, because, you see, you absolutely need your apartment to smell of pine needles, and therefore an artificial tree does not suit you at all.
In the end, we find a pine tree (and certainly the biggest one), which was available for purchase on December 28, when we were here for the first time.
And I drag her home on my back. It always reminds me of a scene from the movie "The Passion of the Christ". Especially when after 300 meters I start whispering in a half-delirium:
– Father... I beg you... come... and help me... push this green thing up to the fifth floor without an elevator...
This is my New Year's vibe.
Taking this opportunity, I wish everyone a Happy New Year!

For me, the festive atmosphere always starts with a Christmas tree. When I was a kid, my dad and I would go and get a beauty in mid-December and decorate it with the whole family. I don't really like artificial trees, even though I understand that it's wrong.
In recent years, my wife has been making an advent calendar for the children, so the holiday has been approaching gradually for another reason. I personally love useful gifts, so we usually don’t make surprises in the family. But I enjoy playing Secret Santa with friends and at work – that’s where you can and should get hung up and come up with something interesting.
For me, New Year itself is first and foremost people, company. It is necessary to call parents and relatives, try to see my brother. A couple of months before the holiday itself, I always suggest organizing something unusual. Last year we had a costume party – a couple of weeks were definitely spent on the images.
Happy New Year to all!
Maxim Slavnoslave // 700 rubles for 16 days.
For five years now I have been celebrating the New Year at work – either on duty or starting work on January 1. And this year I work from the 31st to the 1st.
I am inclined to think that it is better to have a good mood all year round than to have a special one only during the New Year holidays.
I don't put up a tree at home because I don't have kids and no one to put presents under it. But there are garlands that my wife and I haven't taken down since last year, and they made us happy in the spring, summer, and fall.
Some special vibe probably comes on December 31st, when my wife and I cut salads and set the table. I call friends, write congratulations. I try not to forget anyone and not to leave them without attention.
I guess that's what New Year's is for me.
Dima Brdz1 // Afterlife
Lately it has become a tradition to go to bed on New Year's Eve to actively start the next year. January 1st is always associated with the beginning of something new, so I want to start it early and with a fresh head.
Yaroslav Hungry // Young Hungry
For me, New Year is not about Olivier salad and champagne, but about tables. The same ones where fresh overseas sea bass 3-bets you with 74s, and a slightly tipsy Santa Claus limps in to hand out presents.
I consciously choose this atmosphere. Because if you start earning money with poker, every day can be a holiday!
The mood is not about the Christmas tree, movies or tangerines. It is about anticipation. New Year is about new goals and confidence that they will be achieved. Just like before.
You don't have to wait until December 31st to enjoy life or feel the magic, because it's happening right now!
Olivia MsMartiny // Olive's Diary
Perhaps it's worth starting with what your "baseline" is. The baseline greatly influences how you will feel, including on holidays.
I know from my own experience, when I was depressed, every New Year was like the previous one. And the emotions were like I was Bad Santa – everything pisses me off and I don't like anything.
In a normal state, it is not difficult to catch the New Year mood – the shops are furnished with New Year gifts, the shop windows are decorated, the pleasant vibe makes you just plunge into this atmosphere.
But when you are "in the minuses", everything is much more complicated. In this case, I would advise you to lie at home and be a seal) Watch movies like "Harry Potter" and "Home Alone". "Taxi 3" is one of my favorite comedies, and the third part also has Santas. Make mulled wine, non-alcoholic is possible. Seclude yourself with a fragrant pine or gingerbread candle and a kilo of tangerines to the sounds of a campfire and fireplace, dreaming that you are somewhere in a country house. Under a blanket and a Christmas tree in the background.
Go for short walks in nature, listen to the snow crunching under your feet and the birds singing in the forest. Throw snowballs and make a snow angel.
I was also inspired by the Sims (Sims 3 and 4)! When I was not in the mood, I looked at what they do for New Year.
And then there was the resource to decorate the Christmas tree and put a present under the tree for yourself, listening to Christmas songs and not rushing anywhere.
The same tangerines can be placed around the rooms. For the films, I made sandwiches with krill paste and lightly salted red fish, plus tea – not energy-consuming, but delicious. Christmas aroma and vibe are guaranteed :)

Every day is like New Year's for me, if I'm playing poker. Especially on Chico, where the time banks are short, and you play on tilt all the time. Pure New Year's and Christmas vibe 365 days a year.
ALDAIR68 novel // Aldair68 diary
I've been living in a location where there is no winter for over two years now, so I've become an expert in creating a tropical New Year's mood)
1. Of course, you need to go to shopping malls – look at the Christmas trees, buy something unnecessary with Christmas music in the background. Even the street markets have this New Year's atmosphere, although they fry shashlik on the counters, and don't pour mulled wine.
2. Yes, we have a skating rink here. I want to go skating.
3. New Year's films are a must. I'm watching "Home Alone" and "A Couple for the Holidays". I'm celebrating this New Year with a lovely lady, we'll drink red wine (I've already bought a case) and watch films.
4. My friends and I rented a villa for the New Year. Rumor has it that we have bought a ton of food and there will also be karaoke. The weather has been like New Year's lately – it's cold outside, and at night the temperature drops to +22, so you can't really swim in the pool.
But the most important thing to remember is that the New Year mood is inside us, we just need to let it in)
Dmitry HuanXIV // Man is immortal
I haven’t had a vacation for 14 years, so I don’t need to create a mood for the New Year, it comes by itself, because for me it’s two in one: a holiday and a vacation for the whole year.
I also made a competition on my blog , people write interesting stories – now I’m in the New Year’s mood.
Minton // t.me/Minthon19
For me, New Year is more about the environment. We have a long-standing tradition – we go out of town for the holidays and rent a house. That's where we can catch that New Year's mood. I'm lazy and don't like to organize anything, so my recipe is to give everything to friends and especially girlfriends. They do it perfectly.
Yuri doBRO-11 // Life is a game of money and time.
One of the musts is that the New Year's table is bursting with delicacies) I remember from childhood – on New Year's you can eat your fill of deliciousness!! Sweets-cakes, ham, different sausages-cheeses, red fish and the same caviar! Dad, I remember, went out of his way to make our table chic and varied)
Now the main attribute of the holiday is jelly! Not a single New Year has passed without it! And the smell of tangerines... I always take at least five kilograms!! Firecrackers-Sparklers... the room is all in serpentine and tinsel, in multi-colored garlands!
We used to go for a walk along Nevsky Prospect, to Palace Square and back home! Now we don't go anymore...
If we find ourselves in the village at Christmas, it's more interesting there! The carols alone are worth it – in costumes, with jokes and gags, with children! We go in a crowd from house to house and scare the owners, and then we treat ourselves))
Kolyada, Kolyada – open the gates!
Get out the chests – hand over the nickels
Even if it’s a ruble or a five-kopeck coin, we won’t leave home like this!
Roma edRock // t.me/Very Excellent Diary
In my case, there is absolutely nothing that can create a New Year's mood. This is the fourth (scary to say) New Year that we will celebrate in countries where either winter as such does not exist, or it occurs in the opposite part of the year.
All the streets of Buenos Aires are lucky to have about the same number of decorations as on one average tram in Moscow. In the photo is the only Christmas tree in our entire area.
But still, something can be done. Get together with friends at home. Eat sauerkraut. Watch Vladimir Vladimirovich's speech. Make a wish. Next year (in light of the fact that the wish did not come true again) – repeat everything again.
