We often see fewer female players at the tables, but there is no shortage of stars to highlight. Throughout the history of televised poker, players like the one we will share today have brought attention and appeal to the sport.
We tell you who Samantha Abernathy is, and what results she has achieved in the game, then give recommendations on how to learn to make money from poker.
Samantha Abernathy Biography
Samantha Abernathy was born on May 11, 1991, in Atlanta. After graduating from college, she went to work as a freelance graphic designer, but in 2014 she moved to Las Vegas, where she was introduced to poker.
The start of her career was incredibly successful. In terms of the number of wins in the first year of active play at medium limits, she took first place among women. And in the second year, Samantha's winnings exceeded $100,000.
At the same time, she went into the modeling business, where she also succeeded. Today, Samantha Abernathy is a regular at medium buy-in tournaments at many major series, not only in the US, but also in Europe. For quite a while, Samantha was one of the faces of the 888poker brand, always sporting their patch. She also promoted Americas Cardroom for some time, even participating in a “Guess The Czech Food Challenge” for the online poker brand. These sponsorships and deals must have significantly increased Samantha Abernathy’s net worth.
Samantha remains connected to the poker world, although she isn’t with the 888poker team these days. Abernathy is now part of the WSOP Thrill Team, where she’s one of seven professionals. The other players on the squad are Patrik Antonius, Espen Jorstad, Vanessa Selbst, Samantha Abernathy, Adam Hendrix, Landon Tice, and Ethan “Rampage” Yau.
With a total of just over $600,000 in live earnings, Samantha is around the 250th place on the All Time Money List in Nevada. Her popularity rating is 26th on Hendon Mob, which is impressive for a player who isn’t constantly in the spotlight.
In 2024, Samantha Abernathy’s net worth is unknown.
Samantha Abernathy's Biggest Wins in Poker
Samantha Abernathy has become famous in the poker community for more than just her good looks. Many of the old-school stars who gained popularity at the same time have stopped playing poker, but Samantha remains involved. She still regularly travels for major live tournaments, especially EPTs. As of the end of 2022, her total career winnings are around $600,000.
Here are her top three successes:
- $437,543 – Third place in the 2016 Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event. The series took place in Melbourne – and this is Samantha’s best cash by a wide margin.
- $25,053 – 2nd place in a $250 buy-in tournament in Las Vegas in 2015.
- $15,000 – Samantha also made a money finish in the 2021 WSOP Main Event (868th place).
In 2014, Samantha Abernathy won 13 live events in Vegas, mostly at Caesars and Aria. In terms of cashes, this was her most active period, although the prize pools were not WSOP-sized. Lately, she averages one or two cashes a year, although none in 2024 (probably because of her son being born in the summer).
